Banca Nazionale del Lavoro is one of the major Italian banking groups and ranks amongst the first 100 banks in the world. Founded in 1913, BNL was transformed into a joint-stock company in 1992 and was privatised in 1998.

BNL SpA, the Parent Company, and its Subsidiaries cover all main areas of banking and financial activity, including those with high innovation capacity, directed to both corporate and retail customers.

Over the last few years a thorough re-organisation process has taken place. The restructuring actions of BNL Group's Management have focused on specific issues: active management of capital resources, improvement in the asset quality, growth of revenues in the various areas of business and increased efficiency.

As part of BNL's multi-channel distribution strategy, the traditional bank branch network is being complemented by the self-banking terminals (Atm and Pos), the phone-banking (Telebanca BNL) and the e-banking (e-Family BNL, the banking, trading and shopping channel dedicated to retail market; Business Way BNL, the portal offering both banking and non-banking services to Independent Professionals, Minor Entrepreneurs and SMEs). In order to improve its ability to grasp market opportunities, BNL Group has begun the implementation of a number of initiatives aimed at sustaining profitability, working on an organisational model designed to rationalise and optimise the focus on different business areas (Commercial Banking and Wholesale & International Banking). In line with a view to raising the level of specialisation by segment and by market, BNL has also started implementing a new organisational and distribution model by Geographical Areas.
