SIA (Società Interbancaria per l’Automazione) is the leading provider of technological services and solutions for the banking and financial community, offering specialist expertise in networking, financial markets, payment systems, large databases and Internet based services. Founded in 1977, SIA has designed, implemented and managed some key solutions in the process of automation of the Italian and international financial systems.
Since 1986, SIA has provided the financial community with a single unified network infrastructure (SIAnet), interconnected with main international networks and with RUPA (the single public administration network).
In 1990s, SIA designed technological architecture of important financial markets such as Borsa Italiana, e-MID and MTS.
In 2002, EBA (Euro Banking Association) chose to design and create STEP2, the pan-European clearing house for retail payments in Euro.
Furthermore, in early 2003, the Central Bank of Romania entrusted SIA to create the entire interbank payment system for the country.
In January 2004 SIA activated Express II, a settlement service realised for Monte Titoli.
